A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), granting it access to sensitive records from three federal agencies. This marks a significant legal victory for Elon Musk’s initiative aimed at improving government efficiency.

The lawsuit, filed by unions and nonprofits, challenged DOGE’s authority to obtain data from the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Judge John Bates determined that DOGE qualifies as a federal agency for staffing purposes, despite uncertainties regarding its classification.

Critics argue that DOGE’s access to financial and medical records could impact individuals and businesses, including Musk’s own companies. However, the court upheld DOGE’s right to review agency records under the Economy Act.

While a separate ruling has restricted DOGE’s access to Treasury Department systems, this decision reinforces executive authority in overseeing government operations, promoting efficiency, and reducing bureaucratic waste.
