Attorney General Pam Bondi has directed the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice to cease lawsuits against police and firefighter hiring practices. These lawsuits, initiated by the previous administration, claimed that law enforcement and fire departments used aptitude tests that allegedly violated DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) principles, despite no evidence of intentional discrimination. Bondi stressed that hiring should prioritize expertise and dedication to public safety, rather than meeting DEI quotas. The previous administration’s push for DEI-focused hiring was viewed as unjust and sought taxpayer-funded compensation for less-qualified applicants based on statistical discrepancies. Bondi, along with President Trump, is committed to reinstating merit-based hiring practices and eliminating unlawful discrimination, particularly in public safety sectors, where prioritizing DEI over qualifications could compromise safety. This ruling marks an initial step toward removing DEI preferences in both public and private sectors.
