Heather Unbehaun, accused of abducting her daughter Kayla from South Elgin, Illinois, six years ago, has surrendered and is in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center, facing abduction charges without bail. Days earlier, Kayla was found safe in North Carolina and reunited with her father, Ryan Iserka. Unbehaun was arrested in North Carolina on a fugitive warrant and initially held on a $250,000 bond before being released on bail.
Kayla was abducted on July 4, 2017, after Unbehaun claimed they were going camping and never returned. A major lead came when someone in Asheville recognized Kayla from Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries” and contacted authorities. Ryan Iserka expressed gratitude to law enforcement and supporters for Kayla’s safe return. Heather Unbehaun is set to appear in court on Wednesday at the Kane County Judicial Center.
