Hugo Wentzel, grandson of former President Jimmy Carter, recently shared an update on his grandparents’ health after his elimination from the reality show *Claim to Fame*. In an interview with *Entertainment Weekly*, Wentzel reflected on his grandfather’s condition, noting that while Carter remains mentally active, his health is steadily declining due to age and illness. Wentzel explained that Carter tries to keep his mind busy but is very sick and getting older. Carter had been frequently hospitalized before transitioning to home hospice care in February, marking a significant change in his health.
Following his elimination from the show, Wentzel paid tribute to his 100-year-old grandfather, praising him as an “amazing grandpa” and emphasizing the positive influence Carter has had on his family and the country. Wentzel highlighted Carter’s unwavering commitment to equality and shared his admiration for his grandfather, expressing a desire to be like him one day. Wentzel also mentioned the increasing difficulty of visiting Carter at their home in Plains, Georgia, where he is receiving hospice care. Despite his health challenges, Carter remains intellectually engaged by listening to audiobooks, and Wentzel described him as a “genius” with enduring mental acuity. The Wentzel family continues to face these challenges with the support of prayers and well-wishes from many.
