Baggage handler reveals why you should never tie a ribbon on your luggage

If you’ve ever anxiously searched the baggage carousel, you know how stressful it can be to spot your suitcase among countless look-alikes. While many travelers use colorful ribbons to make their luggage stand out, a baggage handler at Dublin Airport advises against this popular practice.

John, the baggage handler, explains, “Ribbons tied to suitcases can interfere with automated scanning in the baggage hall.” Bags that can’t be scanned automatically may require manual checks, leading to delays or even missed flights.

Another unexpected tip: avoid packing marzipan. “Marzipan has a density similar to some explosives,” John warns, which could result in your bag being flagged for a security inspection.

Instead of ribbons, opt for bold-colored luggage, fabric paint, or stickers that won’t disrupt the scanning process. These small changes can help prevent airport mishaps and ensure your bags reach your destination smoothly.
