Trump under fire after ordering Federal hiring freeze just days before fatal American Airlines collision

The nation is in shock after American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., on January 29, sending both aircraft into the Potomac River. Aboard were 60 passengers, four crew members, and three military personnel.

Rescue teams have recovered 19 bodies, but severe weather is complicating search efforts. The cause of the crash remains unknown, with black boxes critical to the investigation.

President Trump described the tragedy as a “bad situation” that “should have been prevented.” Air traffic control audio revealed that a dispatcher saw a fireball before both aircraft disappeared. American Airlines expressed deep sorrow, while search teams continue working in challenging conditions.
