50 years later, no one expected

More than 50 years ago, Dr. James Hiram Bedford, a psychology professor, volunteered to have his body frozen in hopes of being revived in 2017. Diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer in 1967, he chose to undergo cryonics after reading about it in The Prospect of Immortality by Dr. Robert Ettinger. Following his death on January 12, 1967, his body was frozen with dimethyl sulfoxide to preserve his organs and placed in liquid nitrogen at -196°C. Bedford’s body was later checked in 1991, revealing good preservation despite some discoloration and cracks in his skin. Though he was initially optimistic about future revival, he emphasized that his true hope was for his descendants to benefit from this scientific experiment. Now, three years past the promised revival time, Bedford remains in his cryogenic state alongside 145 other preserved individuals, leaving many to wonder if future technology can ever bring him back.
