A young man noticed an elderly woman trailing him through a supermarket. She stopped whenever he stopped and kept gazing at him. At the checkout, she approached him and said, “I hope I haven’t made you uncomfortable; you just remind me so much of my late son.”
The man responded, “That’s alright.”
She then made an unusual request: “I know it’s a bit odd, but would you mind saying, ‘Goodbye, Mom’ as I leave the store? It would mean so much to me.”
Wanting to make her happy, the man obliged and called out, “Goodbye, Mom!” as she waved and smiled on her way out.
Feeling good about the gesture, he turned to pay for his groceries. The cashier told him, “Your total is $121.85.”
Shocked, the man said, “What? I only bought five items!”
The cashier replied, “Yes, but your mom said you’d be covering her groceries too.”
