Autopsies have been completed on Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog following their mysterious deaths in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Investigators found no visible injuries on the couple, discovered in their $3.8 million home. Speculation about the cause of death remains high.
Although autopsies were finalized, officials await full results, including toxicology reports. Gene’s daughter, Leslie Anne Hackman, previously suggested that carbon monoxide poisoning might have been the cause. However, the Santa Fe City Fire Department and New Mexico Gas Company conducted tests and confirmed the residence was safe from hazardous substances.
An affidavit stated, “New Mexico Gas Company responded to the residence and conducted tests on the gas line in and around the property.” Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed, “Initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual.” The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the cause of death.
