DOJ Memo Vows To Prosecute Officials Who Resist Immigration Crackdown

The Trump administration is moving forward with efforts to challenge sanctuary city policies, instructing federal prosecutors to investigate and potentially charge state and local officials who refuse to enforce immigration laws. A memo from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove highlights that federal law prohibits resistance to immigration enforcement at the state and local levels. In a related move, the administration has ordered the closure of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices in federal agencies, placing employees on paid leave and terminating all related programs and contracts. President Trump also signed executive orders aimed at ending race- and sex-based preferences in federal hiring, emphasizing that discrimination protections should be based on individual merit. He argued that DEI programs have promoted harmful preferences, weakening safety and merit in critical sectors such as aviation, law enforcement, and government.
