On Thursday, House Republicans twice blocked the release of a potentially damaging report from the House Committee on Ethics regarding former Rep. Matt Gaetz, effectively suppressing allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use that had partly hindered his bid to be confirmed as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general.
In two consecutive votes, the House largely followed party lines, voting 206-198 and 204-198 to return the matter to the Ethics panel. According to the New York Post, Rep. Tom McClintock of California was the only Republican to break ranks, siding with Democrats in an effort to make the report public.
