My MIL Demanded $600 for Walking & Feeding Our Dog While I Was in Labor – I Agreed, but Only on One Condition

After bringing my newborn home, I was stunned to find a $600 invoice from my mother-in-law, Abigail, for caring for our dog, Rich, while I was in labor. My husband, Jake, had assured me his mom, who loved Rich, would handle it.

Labor was grueling, but after three days in the hospital, we returned home, eager to reunite with Rich and the baby—only to find Abigail’s bill for walking and feeding our dog. She never mentioned a charge beforehand, so I decided to respond.

When Abigail visited, I presented her with a folder detailing past favors: $800 for moving, $1,200 for car repairs, and $600 for babysitting. I reminded her that family doesn’t charge family. Furious, she stormed out, but Jake laughed and hugged me, impressed by my move.

Abigail didn’t get her $600, and I’d be ready if she ever tried again.
