Vivek Ramaswamy, who was appointed by former President Trump as co-chair of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), will not be taking on the position.
Shortly after the announcement, sources confirmed that Ramaswamy was no longer associated with DOGE.
The biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate is now expected to launch a campaign for Ohio governor next week. Although he played a key role in creating DOGE alongside Elon Musk, he must step away due to the organization’s structure.
His decision comes in response to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s appointment of Jon Husted to the Senate, which has opened up an opportunity for Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial bid.
After an unsuccessful presidential run that ended with a disappointing performance in the Iowa caucuses, Ramaswamy became a strong Trump ally—an alignment that could boost his chances in the Republican-leaning state.
