My boss often had me lie to his wife, claiming he was working late due to a project deadline. One day, fed up, I finally told her, “Just so you know… your husband is never here after 6 pm.” To my surprise, she laughed and said, “Oh, so you don’t know about our little game yet?”
It turned out my boss would go straight home to her after work, but he made me lie as a test to see if I’d eventually crack and reveal the truth. It was his strange way of gauging my loyalty. This realization only deepened my frustration, and I knew it was time to quit. Looking back, it’s a bit funny, but at the time, it was the last straw.
